The Soyuz 017 TUBE is a large diaphragm tube condenser microphone delivering a sound that is as rich, warm, solid, and beautiful as its hand-crafted, polished design suggests. The 017 features a cardioid capsule with a gold-sputtered, hand-tuned 34mm diaphragm. As with all Soyuz microphones, the 017 is completely handmade: bodies and capsules are manually machined, transformers are wound in-house, and all wiring is true point-to-point. The blue-badged 017 TUBE comes in a wooden case with a custom, hand-machined shock mount, special 6-pin cable, power supply, and extra 6ZH1P pentode tube.

THE TSAR OF MICS

The classic sound of the 017 was previously considered impossible to achieve with new microphones. Engineers routinely spent small fortunes on vintage condensers and fought to keep them operational as they aged as new models – and even reissues – were often not imbued with the same desired characteristics despite their hefty price tags. This is not surprising: manufacturing techniques have changed, why wouldn’t the results? With its open top-end, smooth mid-range, powerful – yet balanced – low-end, and remarkably robust build quality, the 017 is destined to be the future benchmark of that elusive mixture of accuracy and sonic flattery that has sent vintage prices soaring.

S17 CAPSULE

Collectively, the engineers at Soyuz have spent decades studying, servicing, and building classic microphones; this unique pool of knowledge, craft, and skill — combined with the golden ears of numerous musicians, producers, and audio engineers — has culminated in the creation of the custom S17 capsule used in the 017 Series. Based on the legendary K67 capsule developed in 1960, Soyuz has further modified the design to achieve an airy yet accurate high end, elegantly smooth midrange presence, and a robust but balanced bottom end.

The SU-017 redefines the classic tube large diaphragm microphone. Soyuz' proprietary transformer, vintage tube, and handmade capsule work in concert to create a sound that is rich and balanced across the frequency spectrum, with a top end that is open and never harsh. Its smoother, rounded top-end is perfect for sources requiring warmth with slightly more coloration.
